The Mayhem stormed the field in the first two games of the Lowell tournament, winning both games with a combination of great pitching, fielding and hitting, particularly from the 12 year-old contingent.
The girls beat a tough Lowell Psycho team looking for revenge after two defeats at the hands of the Mayhem at the Groton tournament. It was not to be as the girls delivered a 5-4 win featuring terrific pitching from Rochelle and great fielding by the infield combination of Talan, Paige, Marissa and Brittany. Meghan was strong behind the plate and in the batters box.
On Saturday morning the Mayhem handed a 14-4 defeat to Auburn with Marissa, Alex, Carissa and Brittany delivering the runs with big hits, including a 3-run double by Marissa, a monster two-run double by Brittany and a two-run single by Alex. Paige and Meghan delivered key extra base-hits, including a bomb by Paige that nearly left the park. Talan pitched a great game with Alex handling everything she delivered behind the plate. Key fielding plays were made by Alyssa and Christina and the infield again played a solid game.
On Saturday afternoon the clouds darkened as the girls faced the Stoneham Sparks and were unable to deliver their A game. A dozen plus walks combined with pass balls handed the game to the Sparks.
Things looked brighter Sunday morning with the team finishing the round-robin 2-1 and seeding fifth in a division of ten teams. Unfortunately the 4th seed was Stoneham and the re-match, although played well by the Mayhem, featured terrific hitting by the Sparks who won the game handily.
The coaches and parents would like to thank all of the Mayhem players for their hard work, dedication and team spirit. We will miss our departing players Rochelle, Alyssa and Brittany who move up an age bracket next season. This season was the best yet for the Mayhem program, which is particularly rewarding given the fact that five players were still eligible to play U-12. Things look bright for the next two seasons despite the fact the team is losing three key older players. We wish them well and look forward to the 2006 edition of the Mayhem.

The Mayhem Middle Essex League season came to an end Monday night with girls losing a tough battle against Amesbury. A slow start to the game put the Mayhem behind early but they battled back to make the game close at the end. The Mayhem finished the season with a record of 6-8; not bad for their first season in U-14 particularly when half the team was still eligible to play U-12.
The final tournament of the season will be played this weekend in Lowell. Please see the tournament schedule for game times.

The up and down season of the Mayhem continues as the girls went 3-4 over the last two weeks of Middle Essex League play. After dropping three consecutive games, two to Andover and one to Burlington, the Mayhem got back on the winning side with a 15-6 victory over North Andover Monday night. Rochelle pitched well, the defense shined and the struggling offense came alive with everyone contributing at some point during the game. Next up is Pentucket and the Lowell tournament on the 19th.

Mayhem Crush Peabody
The Mayhem crushed Peabody 16-2 in Middle Essex League play with Christina going the distance with a terrific pitching performance. Paige and Alex delivered monster hits to drive in runs, while Marissa again bunted one in. Christina and Alyssa delivered hits, as did Carissa and Drue. Megan handled duties behind the plate and Brittany made several key defensive plays.

Mayhem Take 3rd Place at Groton Tournament
The Mayhem girls took 3rd place in the Groton U-14B Invitational Tournament, their best finish this season. The tournament featured teams from Groton, Lowell, Somerset, Tewksbury, Danvers and Milford.
After finishing 1-2 in round-robin play on Saturday, the girls took the field against Danvers early Sunday morning to determine who would face eventual tournament winner Somerset, who finished the tourney undefeated. After taking a beating from Somerset on Saturday, the Mayhem were eager to avenge their lost and crushed Danvers 19-5 to earn their spot in the semi-finals. Unfortunately Somerset was too much to overcome and while they faced Mayhem rival Tewksbury, the girls took on Lowell for third place.
The Mayhem defeated Lowell on Saturday morning and had to be prepared for a team wanting to avenge their loss. The girls established their lead early and never looked back in defeating Lowell 9-1 to take 3rd place.
Rochelle pitched the majority of the tournament and was instrumental in their victories, both with her consistent pitching and her fielding, Marissa, Drue and Talan all pitched quality innings in relief and played solid defense in the field. At the plate all Mayhem players contributed key hits, bunts and walks, along with aggressive and successful base-running. Paige and Alex shared duties behind the plate and both did a terrific job including throwing out several opposing base-runners. Key contributions were also made by Carissa and by alternates Faith, Jessica and Ashley.
July 12, 2005
After getting bombed by Reading and dropping a close one against Winchester, the Mayhem girls got back on track by scorching Pentucket 11-3 in U14A action in the Middle Essex League on Monday night. The game at the Burnham Road field featured terrific pitching by Christina, who went the distance, and solid small ball throughout the line-up. Manufacturing runs with walks, base hits, steals and aggressive base-running was the name of the game. Carissa and Paige each delivered key 2-run base hits to blow the game open and secure the win. The defense was solid led by Meghan at 2nd base and Talan at 3rd and the 12 year-old contingent once again made key contributions at the plate.
June 27, 2005
The Mayhem girls posted a 9-4 victory over North Andover to open the season in the U-14A Division of the Middle Essex League. Talan and Rochelle did the job in the circle and all Mayhem batters contributed to the victory with hits, stolen bases, walks and runs scored.

The Mayhem made great strides this weekend, surprising and scaring a
few teams with their hard-nosed, never-give-up play.
The tournament in Lowell began with girls earning a 10-10 tie against
Milford, a game they probably should have won. A terrific pitching
performance was turned in by Christina and the entire team showed great
discipline and proficiency at the plate with everyone contributing with
walks and hits. The base-running continued to improve and the defense
played well until the last inning when a few mistakes and one bad call
by the ump turned a sure win into a tie.
After a team lunch at the 99, the girls took the field against T.A.P.S.
and played well but were again done in by one poor inning. The third
game of the day was against a tough, and older, Shrewsbury team. Again
the girls played well but fell short due to a single inning of
mistakes.
The highlight of the weekend was the Sunday morning playoff game
against Tewksbury. The third meeting of the young season between these
two clubs was the best yet. The top seed in the tournament was not
expecting the young Mayhem players to storm the field, but that is what
they did, falling just short of a big tournament upset.
Talan, as she did all weekend long, pitched a terrific game. The
defense was strong but it was the hitting of the Mayhem, particularly
the clutch hits of the 12 year olds, that sparked a five-run inning
that tied the game at 7, stunning the Tewksbury team and fans.
With Alex leading off with a hit, the next five players reached and
four of them scored to tie the game. Key base hits by Carissa, Marissa
and Drue drove in runs and positioned them to score, which they all
did. All Mayhem players contributed with their bats or with drawing
walks with Alyssa, Christina and Rochelle making several key
contributions during the game. The score went back and forth with each
team battling hard and scoring runs but in the end the girls fell just
short.
A special note must be made about the play of Paige, who was behind the
plate the entire weekend. Catching four different pitchers, Talan,
Christina, Alyssa and Rochelle, Paige's terrific play kept the Mayhem
in every game. Like all great catchers, Paige also contributed several
key base hits, including a huge double in the game Sunday morning.
The Mayhem girls showed tremendous heart throughout the tournament,
never giving up and being competitive in a U14B tournament that
featured a lot of 14 and 15 year old girls on the other teams; not bad
for a team comprised of primarily 12 and 13 year olds. Despite the
challenges, the Mayhem coaches believe in their girls and know the wins
will come.
June 16, 2005
The Mayhem girls didn't post any wins in their first two tournament appearances, but were competitive in every game they played. Fine pitching contributions from Rochelle, Christina, Alyssa and Talan, along with solid defense from Vern, Fred, Barbie, Killer and Mugsy and offense from Pudge and Brittany led to competitive tournament play and the promise of good things to come as the season gets under way.

The Northern Mass Mayhem are entering their third year of competitive club softball, their first in the U-14B division. The team consists of 12-14 year old girls from the Merrimack Valley area of Massachusetts. The team is coming off a successful year in the U-12B division of the Middle-Essex league and developed into a competitive tournament team in 2004. All of the third year Mayhem players participated in the indoor league at Strike One in Danvers, MA this past winter. The team was competitive in their first experience at the U-14 level.
